Well, it’s a brave new world since the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic made the United States 2020 Presidential Election cycle seem like page six news. The good news is that things have radically focused us humans on what we deem precious. Health, time, food, freedom, yes, freedom.
The absence of the usual day-to-day stuff to distract has made me think of things that I would ordinarily put off. I’m moved to thinking about doing them sooner rather than later, once we clear this pandemic. I’m not talking about the practical or even smart things of life. I’m thinking about the dreams that I have put off for far too long because they were impractical, or better saved for retirement age. Now, I’m seriously considering some way to make them happen as soon as I can.
One of those dreams is to get a proper manual transmission sports car, in exchange for my practical hatchback. These signs of our times have cut my paper gains, which isn’t as bad as the realization that this pandemic may potentially shorten my life expectancy, especially if Coronavirus becomes a (perennial) thing. Yes, this is frivolous, but it’s better than overdosing on CNN, which was the mistake I made right after 9/11, and swore I would never repeat.
I’ve had such sport cars in the past, but what I’ve always dreamed of, since I was a kid, was owning a proper pony car. Mustang, Camaro, Firebird, I loved them all.
Although, over the years, my favorite has been the Camaro purely in terms of looks. However, the Mustang is the better daily driver.
So, I’ve been once again eyeing the Mustang. This time, the GT variant. I really want the feeling of my weight being pushed back into the seat as I rocket forward. Also, nothing beats the confidence of knowing one has immediate and ample power at one’s disposal when passing in traffic, or entering or exiting the highway.
Alas, I will have to wait until I can do a proper test drive. Safety first,.
