When I became Organizer of the Modern Sports Cars of Arizona, Meetup group, back in July 2015, I didn’t have a vehicle of any kind. I didn’t really need a car back East, and I wouldn’t have another one for at least six months.
So, I rented a Mustang from the folks at San Tan Ford in Gilbert, AZ, and the rest is history.
I rented vehicles from them until I bought my beloved MINI Cooper S (note: she belongs to another now, sniff).
Another platform in the car sharing space, that only recently re-occurred to me is Turo.com. I rented my VW out on the platform years ago when it was still Relay Rides. I’ve more recently rented my MINI on Turo, with success.
However, it never occurred to me to be a renter on Turo. Maybe it’s because I’ve never really needed to rent when I joined the platform, and had been a Zipcar member for over a decade. I’ve since cancelled my Zipcar membership, as I hadn’t used the service as much since moving to Arizona.
So, don’t feel like you can’t participate in an MSCA meetup or other car event, because you haven’t bought your Porsche 911 Twin Turbo yet. Consider renting or sharing a car, and run what you brung.
